The Repco Supercars Championship has hit the track at Symmons Plains, Tasmanian for the final round before the endurance races, as David Reynolds led the way in the TRADIE Beer Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Reynolds set the pace at a 51.137s to lead a Camaro lockout of the top nine positions, with Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters leading the Mustang charge in 10th.
Behind Reynolds, PremiAir Nulon Racing’s James Golding finished second ahead of Erebus Motorsport’s Jack le Brocq, who qualified on the front row last year.
Cameron Hill continued his positive progression to be fourth in the Supaglass Racing Camaro from Mark Winterbottom in the Cub Cadet Racing Chevrolet, Nick Percat for Bendix Racing, Middy’s Racing driver Bryce Fullwood and the two Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolets as Broc Feeney led Will Brown.
The entire field was covered by 0.768s as reigning champion Brodie Kostecki just missed the top 10, but was ahead of Tim Slade, Ryan Wood, form driver Chaz Mostert and James Courtney in a Blanchard Racing Team Mustang struggling with its power steering.
Andre Heimgartner in 18th led Thomas Randle and Matt Payne were drivers with work to do ahead of tomorrow’s sessions.
The Repco Supercars Championship action continues tomorrow at 11:05am AEST for the second practice session of the weekend ahead of qualifying and Race 17 of the season.
