De Pasquale tops the times on Supercars return

Shell V-Power Racing’s Anton De Pasquale topped both Repco Supercars Championship practice sessions upon its resumption at Sydney Motorsport Park.

De Pasquale set a 1m 30.281s in the opening session this afternoon before improving during this evening’s cooler practice where he achieved a 1m 28.806s to be the only driver to set a time in that range.

It was a Ford Mustang 1-2 in Practice 1 as newly signed Cameron Waters put his Monster Tickford Racing example in second ahead of Brad Jones Racing’s Todd Hazelwood, IRWIN Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and Andre Heimgartner’s Kelly Grove Racing Mustang completed the top five.

Brodie Kostecki, championship leader Shane van Gisbergen, Macauley Jones, De Pasquale’s teammate Will Davison and Jack Le Brocq rounded out the 10.

Seven-time champion Jamie Whincup placed 12th in the opening session, but was second in this evening’s practice, 0.235s in arrears of De Pasquale’s pace setting time.

Whincup led a brace of Holdens, as teammate van Gisbergen, Brodie Kostecki, Nick Percat, Chaz Mostert, Scott Pye, Hazelwood and Will Brown followed. David Reynolds broke the Holden monopoly to round out the 10 in his Kelly Grove Racing Ford Mustang.

Tomorrow’s Repco Supercars Championship action begins with Race 20 Qualifying and Shootout at 3:35pm before the opening race occurs at 7:10pm.
