Dick Johnson had produced special road-going editions before, but the new BA Falcon enticed the racing legend to return in 2003 and launch the DJR320.
In partnership with noted Ford modification workshop Herrod Motorsport, the DJR320 proved a highly exclusive performance offering of the newly lauded BA Falcon.
Although originally the DJR320 was to be produced in the same workshop as the race team, the facilities proved not suitable and assembly occurred at Herrod’s Melbourne factory.
More than 12 months of development went into the package featuring the 5.4-litre Boss engine making 320kW due to Dick Johnson Racing camshafts, a cold-air intake, engine control unit modifications and high flow dual exhaust system ending in twin pipes
Based on the XR8 variant, a new bodykit enhanced the aggressive design of the Falcon featuring spoiler lips front and rear, side skirts and a new bonnet bulge. A set of 19-inch BBS Motorsport rims completed the appearance.
Ventilated and slotted front discs, with rear four piston calipers with braided brake lines all-round provided the stopping power.
Koni dampers were mated with a special-rate progressive coil springs to provide an aggressive stance.
DJR320 branding featured throughout the interior, which included bolstered front and rear seats, sports steering wheel, MOMO gear knob, DJR instruments and a premium six-CD sound system.
Priced at $90,000, the DJR320 was priced more than $20,000 more than the range topping GT-P at the time and only between 25-28 units were approximately built.
