Dominating touring car racing both locally and internationally during the early-1990s, two Nissan Skyline GT-Rs will highlight this technological warfare at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 16-17.
Joining the previously announced Le Mans winning Mazda 787B, Benetton B200 and Yamaha YZR 500cc Grand Prix bike, a pair of successful Bathurst Nissan Skyline GT-Rs will add to this exciting event.
Gibson Motorsport arguably led the way for the legendary Nissans globally as the squad won a pair of Australian Touring Car Championships and two Bathurst 1000s, including the first for a Japanese manufacturer.
In 1991, Jim Richards completed back-to-back ATCC and added another Bathurst 1000 crown as co-driver Mark Skaife secured his first.
Winfield came onboard to sponsor the team in a lucrative deal and this time it was Skaife taking his maiden touring car title as both won at Bathurst again, but in controversial circumstances.
Featuring a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system, a powerful 2.6-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six motor and a Holinger six-speed gearbox. The Gibson GT-Rs were ‘Australianised’ and famously an entry to race at Fuji was disallowed by NISMO management.
Both 1991 and 1992 Bathurst 1000 winning GT-Rs will be at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival joining a prestigious array of entries covering a wide range of disciplines.
Featuring a unique street party where millions of dollars worth of Formula 1, touring cars, exotics and motorbikes drive through the city allowing fans a close inspection.
Entries will run the Victoria Park Sprint during the weekend providing an opportunity for fans to watch these stars of the circuit to view and hear the sound of the beasts of yesterday being pushed just a little bit.
Another aspect of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be the Grand Marquee where star guests will be interviewed throughout the event providing entertaining tales of their racing journey.
Don’t miss out on attending this superb celebration on March 16-17.
