This weekend marks the last event for Pukekohe Park Raceway as a motorsport venue dubbed the ‘Final Farewell’.
Holding an important place in New Zealand racing history, Pukekohe Park hosted the first Grand Prix in 1963 and was the scene of the international debut for Supercars in 2001 as Greg Murphy made the place his own.
Last July it was announced the venue was to be dedicate to horse racing only ending half a century of motorsport history.
As the final chequered flag is prepared to fall at Pukekohe, a large amount of entries representing the popular racing categories to visit the circuit has been assembled to celebrate rather than mourn the end.
On the bill will be the NAPA Central Muscle Cars, Super Trucks, V8s, Ryco 24.7 V8 Utes, Open GT – Unlimited, Open GT – One Hour, Pre-65 Super Minis, NEXEN Tyre Mazda Series and Motul Honda Cup.
Spectacular vehicles from the NAPA Central Muscle Cars include the best of US and Australian muscle. Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, Holden Monaros and Toranas, Falcons, Commodores, Monzas, Pontiac Firebirds and much, much more.
Australian Ron Salter has crossed the ditch to contest the NZ Super Trucks alongside local guns Shane Grey, Brent Collins and Ricky West.
GT Open – Unlimited will feature some of the fastest models in the country including the Brabham BT62, Renault RS01 and multiple others.
A majority of the categories will contest 15 lap handicap races as part of the Hamilton Asphalts Saloons Flying Farewell.
The Eric Mallard Fast Forty Flying Farewell will be contested by Open GT, Super V8 and NAPA Central Muscle Cars where 20 lap races will be held.
Plenty of trophies and memorabilia will be provided to the winners marking a historic event in New Zealand motorsport history.
In addition to the on-track action, some of the country’s finest vehicles representing Pukekohe and New Zealand motorsport’s history.
New Zealand motorsport legends will also be on-hand to provide Pukekohe a spectacular and fitting farewell to say thanks for the memories.
