Finals contenders falter, Broc Feeney takes pole

Broc Feeney will start Race 29 of the Repco Supercars Championship from pole following Sunday’s Top 10 Shootout at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

While Feeney enjoyed a seamless run to pole position, some of his fellow Finals contenders failed to make it to the Top 10 Shootout.

Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Will Brown crashed and ended the session 18th, while Anton De Pasquale was baulked as he starts alongside on the ninth row.

Ryan Wood needs to win to remain in the Finals race and will start the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Ford Mustang 13th, with Brodie Kostecki back in 14th driving the rebuilt Shell V-Power Racing Team entry.

Feeney’s 1m 09.198s proved enough to secure pole after bettering Thomas Randle’s early benchmark by 0.201s

Behind the front row are Chaz Mostert in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Ford Mustang and the Monster Castrol Racing example of Cam Waters.

James Courtney for his final start on the Gold Coast will start fifth alongside the R&J Batteries Racing Chevrolet Camaro of Andre Heimgartner, while Aaron Cameron made it two Blanchard Racing Team Mustangs in the top 10 starting seventh.

Penrite Racing duo Kai Allen and Matt Payne followed, with the latter receiving a kerb strike in the Top 10 Shootout.

Rounding out the first 10 slots on the grid was PremiAir Racing’s Richie Stanaway after a lock up forced him to cut the opening chicane.

Race 29 of the Repco Supercars Championship is due to start at 2:10pm AEST/3:10 ADST.
