General Motors snares experienced engineer

General Motors has gone on the attack since Triple Eight Race Engineering’s defection to Ford by first gaining Jeromy Moore and now Grant McPherson from Penrite Racing.

A further coup for General Motors in its Supercars attack, McPherson will fill the manufacturer’s Supercars-focused role after Moore has moved on to being part of Cadillac’s LMDh sportscar program.

General Motors has enjoyed a tough start to the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship after taking just one win and two podiums after two rounds of the season.

Ford has dominated the season through not only Triple Eight, but championship leader Brodie Kostecki at the Shell V-Power Racing Team, Tickford Racing atop the Team’s title and Penrite Racing are strong too.

The Blanchard Racing Team is not to be forgotten either having taken pole in Sydney and has been on the pace at the season’s opening rounds.

Penrite Racing lost team principal David Cauchi at the end of last year and McPherson in a matter of months.

Penrite Racing team owner Stephen Grove released a strongly-worded statement in response to McPherson’s departure

“We wish Grant well in his move to General Motors,” Grove said.

“It’s no surprise our people are in demand as we’ve built one of the strongest technical teams in Supercars, and that strength comes from depth of talent.

“This is the second time General Motors have targeted our organisation, and in both instances, it has involved significant above-market offers. That speaks to the premium they are willing to pay as they work to improve their current results deficit in the post-Triple Eight era.”

McPherson has been a feature of Ford Performance Racing, Triple Eight and left Walkinshaw Andretti United as it was then known after the 2022 season.

It is expected McPherson will leave in five and half months before going on ‘gardening leave’ after.
