Goodwood Festival of Speed continues to be bucket list item

Once again the world’s most exotic, luxurious, exclusive and historic vehicles all descended on the sprawling land of Goodwood Estate for the Festival of Speed.

Since 1993, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has showcased the latest and greatest on wheels and this year was no exception.

The event celebrated the centenary of MG featuring a sculpture in front of the manor featuring one of the British marque’s mid-1960s sports cars and a current day iteration by its now Chinese owner.

However, what headlined the event was the run up the hillclimb by the latest supercars from Porsche, Lotus, Bugatti, Ferrari and the legendary Maserati MC12, which dominated GT racing during the early-2000s.

EVs by the world’s leading marques also highlighted the advancements made in this area. Toyota also displayed its hydrogen capabilities to further add to the advancements of cleaner systems.

Added to this was the application of AI particularly in the form of an autonomous IndyCar.

It was Ford’s mighty SuperVan with Romain Dumas at the wheel clocking the fastest time up the hillclimb.

Many Formula 1 drivers were on hand including Alex Albon driving a Williams FW08, Daniel Ricciardo in a Red Bull RB7, while Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Sergio Perez, David Coulthard and reigning World Drivers’ Championship winner Max Verstappen all sampled a variety of machinery across the weekend.

Red Bull celebrated 20 years since it joined Formula 1 and also launched its RB17 track car designed by revolutionary designer Adrian Newey.
