More than 300 classic racing models spanning open-wheelers to tin tops will compete at Historic Sandown this weekend.
A favourite for fans and competitors alike, the Historic Sandown event will roar into life after the effects of the global pandemic ensured limited crowds were in attendance in addition to competitors due to the various state border restrictions.
Headlining the event is the final round of the Precision International Australian Sports Sedan Series where title contenders Jordan Caruso and Steve Tamasi are separated by 27 points.
Caruso driving John Gourlay’s venerable Audi A4 Chev is aiming for his maiden national title, though Tamasi holds superior experience as a multiple series winner himself in the family-owned Holden Calibra Chev.
An interesting entry is Todd Kelly’s son Mason, who will make his Supercar debut in a Nissan Altima within Sports Sedan category after racing a MARC Ford Focus for much of the season.
The big banger Formula 5000s will make a return representing marques such as Lola, Elfin, March, McRae and Chevron, with the ground guaranteed to rumble as the field fly past.
Historic Formula Ford is always closely contended, category leader Andrew McInnes will have a battle on his hands with regular rival Jon Miles. Making a return to racing is a name from the past, Lyndon Arnel competed in series production and sports sedans in the early 70s, but will race a Lola in Formula Ford.
Other categories include a big field of MG and Invited British Sports Cars, an equally strong field of HQs, the eclectic entry of Historic Touring Cars featuring Falcon, Mustang, RX2, GTR XU-1, Charger and more.
Group S pits the classic sports cars of Germany, Japan, Italy and America against each other, while an array of open-wheelers ensures there is enough variety for all fans.
