Incident filled final Bathurst practice session

Three red flags interrupted the final practice session for all competitors before tomorrow’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

In a session topped by Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney, the first red flag was caused by Tony D’Alberto bunkering the Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang into the Hell Corner gravel trap.

Once D’Alberto was extricated and the session went green before it was stopped again due to Jaxon Evans spearing off in the same place.

Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki at the time was at the top on a 2m 06.899s with his first lap of the day, as the session resumed until another stoppage occurred.

Blanchard Racing Team’s Aaron Love found the fence at The Cutting and although the Ford Mustang returned to the pits, the session was red flagged.

Kostecki’s benchmark was beaten in the final stages by Thomas Randle first in the Monster Energy Racing Mustang, with teammate Cam Waters 0.07s off/

Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway took a turn at the top before Feeney pipped the New Zealander by 0.33s on a 2m 06.127s.

Stanaway remained third from Jack Le Brocq, Randle and Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert in what were simulated runs ahead of the Top 10 Shootout at 5:05pm AEDT.

Waters was sixth ahead of Matt Payne, Will Brown, Andre Heimgartner and Kostecki.

The most anticipated session of the season, the Top 10 Shootout is up next.
