Inside Dream Motorsport

Dream Motorsport features an eclectic mix of cars under various forms of restoration by Dean Randle, a former National Sports Sedan champion and father of Supercars full-timer Thomas.

Separate to son Thomas’ Dream Simulator business, the Randle workshop houses everything from a Porsche 935 to numerous Formula Holden and 3000 chassis.

Initially, Dream Motorsport started to support Thomas’ early career and grew to field entries in the Australian Formula 4 and Ford Championships for many years, before scaling back to just complete restorations.

“We started in 2014 and we were running Formula Ford and Formula 4 from 2014 until 2016,” Randle explained.

“We had our own cars, people were leasing cars off us and we were running cars for people as well as providing driver training, coaching.”

One of Randle’s clients is co-owner of Tickford Racing Rusty French, who owns a wide ranging collection of models.

“Rusty has a whole heap of race and classic cars, which a lot needed a fair bit of work so I’ve been completing restorations on some of his collection pieces over the last three years,” Randle said.

“I’ve got the last of Rusty’s 935s here in the workshop at the moment, which I have just about finished.”

Open-wheelers remain a key part of Dream Motorsport, with one of its clients owning multiple former Formula Holden and even an original Formula 3000 featuring some firepower in the rear.

“That’s another client I’ve developed a friendship with, he loves older Formula 3000s, which is his era,” Randle continued.

“Two of these chassis have been converted to Formula Holden and one is original with the Mugen V8 still installed, so he tends to run those in historic events.”

Dream Motorsport is still represented in national motorsport through the National Sports Sedan Series where Thomas competes in a SAAB 9-3 powered by a Chev V8, the same model his father won the 2006 title in.
