James Golding returns to the top in final Bathurst practice session

Blanchard Racing Team’s James Golding heads into the Top 10 Shootout with the bragging rights after setting the pace in the sixth and final practice session at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Golding led a pack of Chevrolets after setting a 2m 05.209s to hold a 0.288s advantage from the DEWALT Racing Camaro of Anton De Pasquale, with Erebus Motorsport’s Cooper Murray, Jayden Ojeda of PremiAir Racing and provisional pole-sitter Zach Bates following in the Matt Stone Racing entry.

Cam Waters was up next in the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang, but co-driver Mark Winterbottom experienced an awkward moment on Conrod Straight involving James Courtney.

Winterbottom pulled out to overtake Chaz Mostert on Conrod Straight, but a yellow was displayed for wildlife leading to the veteran slowing down leaving Courtney to hit the rear of the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang.

Ducks were the cause of the stoppage, with the family being safely escorted off the track allowing the session to continue after an eight-minute delay.

The newly repaired entries of Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing and the Shell V-Power Racing Team were continuing to troubleshoot problems during the session.

Behind Waters was Jack Le Brocq in the second Matt Stone Racing Camaro, Will Brown driving the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang, the Penrite Racing entry of reigning Bathurst winner Matt Payne and David Reynolds completed the top 10.

Thomas Randle, Kai Allen, Brodie Kostecki, Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood just missed the top 10 in the final session.

The famed Top 10 Shootout at Mount Panorama is due to begin at 5:05pm AEDT.
