Japanese performance brand celebrates 40 years

Nissan’s performance arm NISMO has celebrated its 40 year anniversary.

Established in 1984 as Nissan Motorsport International Co. Limited, it is the in-house turning, motorsports and performance division of Nissan.

Originally located in Omori, Tokyo, NISMO developed performance products and variants for Nissan’s performance models on or off the track.

NISMO’s ethos of ‘track to road’ embodies the goal to deliver the ultimate Nissan cars featuring learnings from the race track.

Performance parts is where NISMO proved successful in through Nissan’s golden age entering the 1990s through the Skyline, Silvia, 300ZX and Pulsar GTiR.

Not only does NISMO produce performance parts for the current range of Nissans, but also offers components for models out of production.

NISMO has been successful on-track both in Japanese domestic series for sports cars, Super GT and Super Touring, but internationally through its involvement at Le Mans.

Road variants such as the Skyline-based 400R and S14 Silvia 270R continue to be highly desirable to this day.

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported NISMO since 1984 and we look forward to delivering speed, confidence and exhilaration for decades to come,” said Nissan’s global motorsports business unit and president of NMC, Takao Katagiri.

“Our longstanding ethos of track to road, continues with our Super GT and Formula E factory racing programs.”

“Our aim is to deliver exhilaration for fans at the circuit and embed the learnings from the racetrack, into products customers can buy. Our long-term goal is to progressively expand our business globally, delivering more exciting NISMO models to customers around the world.”
