Kai Allen and Brodie Kostecki split the honours in practice at Queensland Raceway

Penrite Racing’s Kai Allen and Brodie Kostecki for the Shell V-Power Racing Team have set the earlier pace after the opening two practice sessions at Queensland Raceway.

Allen was fastest in the first session on a 1m 09.625s to head Repco Sprint Cup contender Broc Feeney by 0.024s and PremiAir Racing’s Declan Fraser in third.

Repco Sprint Cup leader Matt Payne was fourth leading Rylan Gray, Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown, Anton De Pasquale of DEWALT Racing, Monster Castrol Racing driver Thomas Randle, the first Toyota of Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert and the Snowy River Racing Chevrolet of David Reynolds completed the top 10.

Brown’s luck failed to change in the second session after his team discovered a restrictor discrepancy in between rounds after transmission problems arose.

Kostecki was 11th in the opening session, but set a scorching pace in the second to set a 1m 08.703s and better Feeney’s earlier benchmark by 0.219s.

Mostert was third from Payne, De Pasquale, Allen, Erebus Motorsport’s Cooper Murray, James Golding for the Blanchard Racing Team, Randle and Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing driver Ryan Wood.

Brad Jones Racing’s Andre Heimgartner also encountered troubles complaining of damage to the front-end of the R&J Batteries Racing Toyota GR Supra.

Qualifying for the two 39-lap races on Saturday begins at 10:00am AEST.
