Kiwi delight – Shane van Gisbergen goes back-to-back at the Mountain

A dominating final stint has led to Shane van Gisbergen and Richie Stanaway taking victory in the 2023 Repco Bathurst 1000.

Emerging after his final pit stop with a 25s lead, van Gisbergen was never headed despite the gearshift tower problems afflicted his two Triple Eight Race Engineering teammates.

Pole man and championship leader Brodie Kostecki guided his Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 he shared alongside David Russell to second, while the lead Ford Mustang too the final step of the podium courtesy of Anton De Pasquale and Tony D’Alberto for Shell V-Power Racing.

Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth enjoyed a solid bounce back from Sandown to be fourth in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Mustang from the David Reynolds Penrite Racing Ford shared by Garth Tander.

James Courtney and Zak Best took seventh for Snowy River Racing as Camaros filled out the top 10 led by Will Brown/Jack Perkins in the second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Chevrolet, Bryce Fullwood/Dean Fiore Middy’s Racing entry, Jack Le Brocq/Jayden Ojeda for Truck Assist Racing and James Golding alongside Dylan O’Keeffe rounded out the Top 10 for Nulon Racing.

Only three retirements for the race led by Broc Feeney’s Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro providing another heartbreak for Jamie Whincup.

Another pre-race fancy also dropped out in the Cam Waters/James Moffat Monster Energy Racing Mustang due to hitting the wall at The Dipper and Andre Heimgartner’s hopes went up in flames due to an engine failure for the R&J Batteries Camaro he shared alongside Dale Wood.

Kostecki continues to hold a 131-point advantage to van Gisbergen heading into the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 600 on October 27-30.
