Hidden Valley Raceway has hosted some big hits since it debuted as a round of the Repco Supercars Championship in 1998, but one remains extra painful.
Lee Holdswoirth can claim to have experienced the biggest hit at Hidden Valley Raceway after suffering numerous injuries in a big hit.
It proved a chaotic opening to the final race of the weekend in Darwin during the 2016 season thanks to an incident exiting the opening hairpin.
Fabian Coulthard and Chaz Mostert were held up in the jostling allowing James Moffat to slide alongside the two Ford Falcon FGXs entering the fast chicane in his Volvo S60.
The three ended up entering it three-wide and both Falcons hitting the inside fence hard. Contact between the three led to a half spin for Coulthard, who t-boned Mostert, with the Tickford Racing Falcon spinning across Turn 5.
Moffat was able to recover on the outside through the grass, but the two Falcon FGXs were severely damaged.
This incident led to contact behind when in avoidance, Andre Heimgartner’s Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport Commodore bumped the Team 18 Holden of Holdsworth off track and into a bend in the concrete barrier.
Hitting side-on, Holdsworth was severely injured, with the list including a broken pelvis and minor injuries to his chest.
As a result, Holdsworth missed the next three rounds at Townsville, Queensland Raceway and Sydney Motorsport Park.
Kurt Kostecki replaced Holdsworth at Townsville, while endurance co-driver Karl Reindler filled-in for the remainder.
Holdsworth returned in time to partner Reindler in the endurance events at Sandown and Bathurst.
