Legendary Bathurst models on show at Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival

The Group C and A eras will be represented at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival by two pivotal models.

Both from the eclectic Bowden collection represent two of Australian touring car racing’s longstanding eras covering the 1970s and 1980s.

Dick Johnson Racing’s Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworths were a global leader in competition as proven by its dominant display at the RAC Tourist Trophy in 1988 held at Silverstone. Until a water pump failure dropped Dick Johnson and John Bowe out of the event, the duo were braining the opposition, including the Eggenberger examples.

The Sierra RS500, which will attend Adelaide won the 1989 Bathurst 1000 in hands of Johnson and Bowe as its career continued until Group A ended in 1992 where it played a role in the controversial finish to Bathurst that year.

Also in attendance will be the #25 Holden Dealer Team VK Commodore, which completed the famous 1-2 shared by John Harvey and David Parsons.

Termed the ‘Last of the Big Bangers’ by PR whiz Tim Pemberton, HDT’s pair of VK Commodores dominated the end of season endurance races and was defeated in only one sprint event to end the Group C era on a high.

Brock may have taken most of the laurels, but loyal lieutenant Harvey delivered the team solid results as HDT began to embark on the Group A journey.

The 1984 season marked the end of Marlboro’s sponsorship of the team and the Day-Glo red livery was the perfect ending to the partnership.

Both of these quintessential pieces of Australian motorsport history add to the impressive line-up of race, road and exotic models set to be at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 8-9.
