Legendary Can-Am era to star at Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival

McLaren and Shadow will star at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival to highlight the golden era of the Can-Am Series during 1966 to 1974.

What made the Can-Am Series so exciting was the limited technical regulations and the variety of manufacturers battling it out in some of the fastest race cars in the world.

The McLaren attending the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival is a M6 GT prototype built by founder Bruce McLaren and converted to Can-Am specifications.

Alongside the McLaren, three Shadows representing the MKI Mosport, MKI Prototype and MKIII will be making their first appearance in Australia.

Can-Am attracting the best drivers in world including Mario Andretti, Mark Donohue, Jim Hall, Parnelli Jones, McLaren, Denny Hulme, Peter Revson, John Surtees, Jacky Ickx, Dan Gurney and Phill Hill.

McLaren dominated the Can-Am Series winning five titles, while it was Shadow bookending the first era.

Shadow was formed by ex-military intelligence officer Don Nichols, who met freelance designer Trevor Harris.

Smaller wheels and weight distribution methods ahead of the time put Shadow as one of the frontrunners in Can-Am competition.

There will be plenty going on at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival not just on-track, but plenty of activations within the precinct make this event a must-do on the Australian racing calendar.

Tickets are on-sale now for the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 8-9.
