New Zealand drifting legend and social media sensation ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett will bring his rotary-powered McLaren P1 nicknamed MADMAC to the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
Whiddett is one of the most spectacular drivers in the world known for his exploits in drifting and championing rotary engines through some awesome creations.
MADMAC is the latest creation from Whiddett, which debuted at Goodwood last year.
Constructed as part of a joint venture between Whiddett, 1995 Le Mans 24 Hour winning team Lanzante and US luxury car specialist O’Gara Coach Company, the P1 was built in the MADLAB workshop situated at Hampton Downs in New Zealand.
Built as a tribute to Bruce McLaren, the MADMAC was put together in just 100 days using a 1000hp, 2.0-litre turbocharged triple-rotor 20B engine, while retaining the stock gearbox it was modified featuring a bespoke transfer case.
Other modifications made to suit the application of drifting include the custom uprights, an optimised steering rack, bespoke wheels, Haltech ECU, custom dashboard, hydraulic handbrake and a Rocket Bunny bodykit.
“This is my craziest challenge to date, turning a custom Lanzante-built McLaren P1 GTR into the world’s wildest drift hypercar – in only 100 days,” said Mad Mike. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be cutting into a multi-million dollar McLaren with no rules and then unveiling it at one of my favourite events on earth – the Goodwood Festival of Speed.”
MADMAC will be one of the major attractions at the 2026 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on February 28-March 1.
