Repco Supercars Championship Sprint Cup leader Matt Payne continues to be in fine form after ending Friday’s action on top of the timesheet at Perth’s Wanneroo Raceway.
Payne led the second session in his Penrite Racing Ford Mustang after setting a 54.666s to be 0.224s clear of Broc Feeney returning to form in the Red Bull Ampol Racing entry.
It was all-Ford top five as Brodie Kostecki was third for the Shell V-Power Racing Team ahead of the pair of Monster Castrol Racing Mustangs of Thomas Randle and Cam Waters, who bounced back from being 20th in the opening session.
PremiAir Racing’s Declan Fraser led the Chevrolet charge in his best showing of the season so fat from the second Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang of Will Brown and teammate Jayden Ojeda.
Anton De Pasquale was ninth in the DEWALT Racing Camaro ahead of stablemate David Reynolds for Snowy River Racing to complete the top 10.
James Golding followed ahead of the first Toyota GR Supra driven by Brad Jones Racing’s Cam Hill.
Zach Bates was up next from Andre Heimgartner, Macauley Jones, Jack Le Brocq and Kai Allen, while Ryan Wood was 20th right ahead of teammate Chaz Mostert.
In the earlier session, many rookies enjoyed a fresh set of tyres leaving Ojeda on top from teammate Fraser and LIQUI MOLY Blahst Racing’s Aaron Cameron.
There were a couple of collisions during the session mainly around the pit entry area, with Cooper Murray hitting Rylan Gray and Heimgartner getting bumped by Le Brocq.
Rookie Jackson Walls also endured a wild moment heading into Turn 4 after running off sequence and coming across a bunch of slower rivals.
