Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne led the way after the opening Repco Supercars Championship session at Ruapuna.
The opening 45-minute session marked the only practice time for Supercars this weekend due to the condensed Friday schedule after the shortened Taupo event.
Payne set the pace on a 1m 21.301s by 0.040s clear of teammate Kai Allen, while current JR Memorial Trophy leader Ryan Wood was third in the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Supra.
Blanchard Racing Team’s James Golding continued his strong form to be fourth from Shell V-Power Racing Team driver Brodie Kostecki, the lead Chevrolet of PremiAir Racing rookie Jayden Ojeda and Thomas Randle was seventh for Monster Castrol Racing.
Anton De Pasquale placed the DEWALT Racing Camaro in either ahead of the second Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang of Rylan Gray and Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney completed the top 10.
To miss the top spots were Chaz Mostert, Andre Heimgartner, Cam Waters, Will Brown in 17th and Cam Hill after his Supra stopped early in the session to cause a red flag.
Qualifying is scheduled for 2:15pm NZST/12:15pm AEST.
