Repco Sprint Cup leader Matt Payne has ensured he will start Saturday’s two races at Queensland Raceway from the prime position on the grid after achieving Pole Position for both.
A 1m 08.010s lap did the job in Qualifying for Race 26, while a 1m 08.358s did likewise for Saturday’s second encounter to give Payne the pole double.
Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki was 0.025s off Payne’s pace and Chaz Mostert in third guided his Mobil 1 Optus Racing Toyota GR Supra to a time just 0.081s off the leading time.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown and Broc Feeney were up next ahead of Penrite Racing’s second driver Kai Allen.
Thomas Randle led the Monster Castrol Racing’s charge in seventh from rookie Rylan Gray, teammate Cam Waters and Erebus Motorsport’s Cooper Murray.
Those to miss out on the top 10 included James Golding, Anton De Pasquale, Ryan Wood, Andre Heimgartner, David Reynolds and Aaron Cameron.
For Race 27, Payne finished the session 0.068s clear of Kostecki as Brown, Mostert and Allen filled out the top five.
Feeney will line up sixth ahead of an improved De Pasquale, Golding, Waters and Murray.
Those to miss the top 10 were Gray, Randle, Cameron, Jack Le Brocq and Jobe Stewart.
Race 26 is due to start at 12:45pm AEST.
