Brodie Kostecki has converted his practice pace into Boost Mobile Pole Position for the opening race of the Townsville 500.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver set a blistering pace around the Reid Park Street Circuit to achieve a 1m 12.821s, which was 0.034s clear of Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters.
It may prove a crucial time of the season to score pole position as both Red Bull Ampol Racing entries are buried in the pack led by Broc Feeney in 16th and Will Brown 19th following an unfitted tyre deflating after exiting pit lane.
Current Sprint Series leader Matt Payne is third for Penrite Racing ahead of Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert leading the Toyota charge as Thomas Randle rounded out the top five in an impressive performance for Monster Castrol Racing.
Kai Allen is not far away from the lead in sixth, with Ryan Wood in the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Toyota, Jack Le Brocq in a great recovery to lead the Chevrolet efforts for Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing’s Jayden Ojeda and Blanchard Racing Team driver James Golding completed the first 10 runners.
Missing out were Declan Fraser, Aaron Cameron, Cooper Murray, Anton De Pasquale and Rylan Gray.
The 35-lap Friday opener for the Repco Supercars Championship is due to begin at 4:15pm AEST live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports.
