Matt Payne will start the final race of the New Zealand Supercars doubleheader on pole after setting a scorching lap in theTop 10 Shootout.
Heading out last after setting the pace in the earlier qualifying session, Payne managed to set a 1m 20.982s to pip DEWALT Racing’s Anton De Pasquale by 0.146s.
Behind Payne and De Pasquale was Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing’s Ryan Wood, while alongside will be Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown.
His teammate Broc Feeney is fifth sharing the third row with the second Penrite Racing Ford Mustang of Kai Allan.
Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki is on the fourth row with Cam Waters in his first top 10 qualifying appearance of the weekend for Monster Castrol Racing Mustang.
It’s an all-Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang on the fifth row as Aaron Cameron and James Golding both made mistakes in their runs.
Outside of the top 10, Chaz Mostert was bumped out in the closing stages and will start 11th alongside rookie Zach Bates.
Thomas Randle was a disappointing 16th, while all three Brad Jones Racing Supras were outside the top 20.
The final race of the New Zealand doubleheader at Ruapuna is due to begin at 3:05pm NZST/1:05pm AEST.
