Poles for Broc Feeney and Cameron Waters in opening two Supercars races at Albert Park

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney and Monster Energy Racing driver Cameron Waters have taken the Boost Mobile Pole Positions for the opening two Repco Supercars Championship races at Albert Park.
It was a drama-free opening 15-minute qualifying session as Feeney came to the fore setting a 1m 47.714s on his final flying lap to pip Chaz Mostert for Mobil 1 Optus Racing by 0.263s, but Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Anton De Pasquale rose to second on his last circuit.

Feeney’s teammate Will Brown will start the opening race from fourth as Matt Payne continued his strong practice form to be fifth in the Penrite Racing Ford Mustang and he will share the third row with Bendix Racing’s Nick Percat.

Waters was seventh from Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway, Middy’s Racing driver Bryce Fullwood and Todd Hazelwood for Erebus Motorsport.

Those to miss included James Courtney, Thomas Randle, Jack Le Brocq, Cam Hill, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, David Reynolds and Andre Heimgartner.

Rookie Jaxon Evans locked up the SCT Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro hampering his session.

In the quick break between the two sessions, Tickford Racing worked their magic and Waters set a pole time of 1m 47.491s to head Brown by 0.105s, with Feeney in third.

Winterbottom was another to make a masterful recovery to be fourth from Payne, De Pasquale, Le Brocq, Davison, Mostert and Stanaway.

There was late drama when both Nulon PremiAir Racing Camaros spun at Turn 3. Initially Tim Slade spun into the gravel, but he recovered and as this happened Golding rotated on the inside of the circuit hampering any chances of others to improve their lap time.

Todd Hazelwood led the drivers to miss a top 10 berth as did Randle, Fullwood, Percat, Reynolds, Heimgartner and Courtney.

The MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint will kick off at 5:50pm AEDT with Race 1.
