Pony Power – Ford releases new Mustang

The seventh generation of Ford’s legendary Mustang muscle car was launched in Michigan this morning to much fanfare.

Although engines and platform remain the same for the new generation of Mustangs, new styling ensures it will standout when it arrives down under in late-2023, just months after it goes on sale in the US.

The aggressive styling is matched with an updated interior as well as new features including a remote rev option and a new drift brake function.

Suspension carries across from the old model, but some improvements including aluminium control arms and rear linkages, with the previous Magneride adaptive damping system remaining an option.

In addition, a new steering rack and quicker steering ratio adds further to the handling of the upcoming Mustang.

It’s a more aggressive design compared to the previous sixth-generation model as at the front a functional vent and larger, lower air intakes add to the lower beltline leading to a sharper rear undercut providing a much wider stance.

The layout of the dashboard has been simplified and includes a 1980s style digital instrument cluster.

Also, a new Dark Horse performance variant was launched and is good for 373kw.

A Supercars Gen3 version of the new Mustang was teased as testing continues.

One race version fully shown was the new Mustang GT3, with a distinctive rear wing mounted on the rear, aggressive bonnet vents and front styling to match the road-going equivalent.
