Red Bull continue run at the top as Broc Feeney takes provisional pole

Broc Feeney will be last to start the Top 10 Shootout for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 after setting the pace in qualifying.

Hail before the session wet the track after it had dried progressively during the day as Feeney set a 1m 12.898s to take provisional pole by the barest of margins.

Repco Supercars Championship form driver Chaz Mostert was 0.040s off Feeney’s pace in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Mustang, with Matt Payne rounding out the top three for Penrite Racing.

A surprise packet of qualifying was Mostert’s teammate Ryan Wood in fourth ahead of Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters, Will Brown of Red Bull Ampol Racing and reigning champion Brodie Kostecki in the Erebus Motorsport Camaro.

Richie Stanaway made the Top 10 Shootout in eighth driving the second Penrite Racing Mustang leaving Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Racing Camaro and Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Anton De Pasquale to complete the top 10.

Just to miss the Top 10 Shootout were Nick Percat, James Courtney, Mark Winterbottom, James Golding and Will Davison.

The only casualty during the session was Aaron Love in the Blanchard Racing Team Mustang as he spun exiting the back chicane and hit the outside wall, ending in the Turn 9 gravel trap.

The Top 10 Shootout concludes the Repco Supercars Championship action on Saturday at 5:25pm AEST.
