Penrite Racing has made the first move in the Repco Supercars Championship silly season after it confirmed New Zealander Richie Stanaway will depart the team at the end of this season.
The Melbourne-based squad recruited the reigning Repco Bathurst 1000 winning co-driver this season where he sits 13th in the standings, finishing a best of fourth at the Bathurst opener.
Stanaway was on a one year contract, with an option on a second, which will not be taken up by the team as revealed in a statement.
“Grove Racing can confirm that Richie Stanaway’s contract will not be renewed for season 2025,” read a statement from the team.
“Richie will continue as our main game driver for the remainder of the 2024 season, and we will endeavour to support Richie to perform at the level that we know he is capable of.
“The team’s current priority is to finish the 2024 season as strong as possible, and maximise our position in the teams’ championship.
“The driver of car #26 for season 2025 will be announced in due course.”
Until recently, Anton De Pasquale was the favourite to make the move, but Shell V-Power Racing Team co-driver Kai Allen has emerged as a target.
It is believed Brodie Kostecki is the favourite to end up with the Queensland-based Ford team in 2023.
