Despite spearing off the road due to broken steering in the first session, New Zealander Ryan Wood has set the pace in Practice 2 at Taupo.
There was less drama in this session than the opener, as Wood set the pace on a 1m 25.977s to edge 2023 Repco Supercars Championship winner Brodie Kostecki by 0.043s in the Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang.
Third was Monster Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle from fastest in the earlier session Andre Heimgartner driving the R&J Batteries Racing Camaro.
Chaz Mostert had a spin, but finished the session sixth for Mobil 1 Optus Racing ahead of Supaglass Racing’s Cam Hill, the new orange liveried Bryce Fullwood for Brad Jones Racing and reigning championship winner Will Brown leading the Red Bull Ampol Racing charge.
Cam Waters in the second Monster Castrol Racing Mustang completed the top 10 from Broc Feeney, Jack Le Brocq, David Reynolds, rookie Kai Allen and Will Davison.
The PremiAir Racing Camaros displayed strong pace in the mid-part of the session, but James Golding was 16th and Richie Stanaway 17th ahead of Matt Payne.
Nick Percat also finished way back in 23rd.
Surface changes around the circuit made the going tough for drivers and adjustments were continually made by teams during the session.
Action for the Repco Supercars Championship at Taupo continues tomorrow at 8:25am AEST or 10:25am NZST to set the grid for Race 8.
