Ryan Wood ends the final practice session fastest

The final practice session at The Bend 500 had a bit of everything including driver changes, refuelling and qualifying runs, but it was New Zealander Ryan Wood setting the pace.

The Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Ford Mustang was fastest on a 1m 49.286s leading Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki by 0.027s and Broc Feeney in the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaro.

Monster Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle and the TRADIE Racing entry of David Reynolds completed the top five.

Cameron Hill in the Supaglass Racing Camaro, DEWALT Racing’s Anton De Pasquale, title contender Cam Waters, Penrite Racing rookie Kai Allen and Chaz Mostert for Mobil 1 Optus Racing rounded out the top 10.

There were struggles for some teams led by Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne after his Ford Mustang failed to start at the beginning of the session with co-driver Garth Tander at the wheel requiring a starter motor change.

Further trouble came the way of Will Brown after he was forced to return to the lane following an anti-roll bar problem related to the contact from the earlier session.

As teams transitioned to qualifying simulation towards the end of the session, many drivers including Zach Bates, Kai Allen, James Courtney and Andre Heimgartner pushed their limits by either spinning or hitting the dirt.

Qualifying is up next for the Repco Supercars Championship at 3:05pm ACST or 3:35pm AEST.
