Ryan Wood on pole, but mixed fortunes for Finals contenders at Sandown

Ryan Wood eclipsed teammate Chaz Mostert to set the fastest time in the Top 10 Shootout to achieve pole position for the opening 250km race at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

The Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing driver clocked a 1m 08.737s to defeat teammate Mostert by 0.162s in the Top 10 Shootout.

Team 18’s strong Friday form continued after Anton De Pasquale qualified his DEWALT Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 third and David Reynolds 10th in his TRADIE Racing example.

Brodie Kostecki will start alongside De Pasquale on the second row after setting the fourth fastest time in the Top 10 Shootout for the Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Second of the seven Finals contenders behind Mostert was rookie Kai Allen, who leads an all-Penrite Racing third row with teammate Matt Payne.

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney is an uncharacteristic seventh alongside Middy’s Racing driver Bryce Fullwood.

Cam Waters was first out in the Top 10 Shootout and only moved ahead of Reynolds to start the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang ninth.

Finalists Will Brown and Thomas Randle had disappointing qualifying sessions, with the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro due to start 15th after a wrong team call to sit out the final minutes of the session. Randle is further back in 23rd.

Race 30 of the Repco Supercars Championship, the opening leg of the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 is due to start at 3:20pm AEDT.
