Shane van Gisbergen and Will Davison take the honours in Sandown SuperSprint qualifying

Repco Supercars Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen will start from pole in the opening race on Sunday at Sandown, while rival and winner from yesterday Will Davison will do like wise in the final encounter.

Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters led for most of the opening qualifying for Race 25, but lost out to van Gisbergen in the final stages as the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team Commodore set a time of 1m 07.446s.

This edged Waters’ former benchmark by 0.013s, with Chaz Mostert third in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Commodore leading Red Bull Ampol Racing Team rookie Broc Feeney and Scott Pye entering form in the Nulon Racing entry.

Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds was sixth leading former co-driver Will Brown for Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus as a superb performance by James Golding in the Subway-sponsored PremiAir Racing Commodore to be eighth.

Rounding out the top 10 was the R&J Batteries Brad Jones Racing Commodore of Andre Heimgartner and Brown’s teammate Brodie Kostecki.

Shell V-Power Racing Team pair Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale failed to break into the top 10, with yesterday’s race winner 11th ahead of his teammate in 13th.

The previous championship winning team turned this form around in qualifying for Race 26 where Davison scored pole with a 1m 07.207s to edge van Gisbergen by 0.041 as the latter was held up by Jack Smith on his hot lap.

De Pasquale lines up third alongside Mark Winterbottom in the IRWIN Racing entry from Mostert, Waters, Reynolds, Thomas Randle for Castrol Racing, Feeney and Pye.

Brown, Tim Slade, Jake Kostecki, Heimgartner and Golding all just missed the top 10.

Race 25 of the Repco Supercars Championship season at Sandown will commence at 1:05pm AEST.
