Red Bull Ampol Racing Team’s Shane van Gisbergen has doubled up in a shortened Race 22 at The Bend Motorsport Park.
The race was red flagged after a start line incident involving Thomas Randle in the Castrol Tickford Racing Ford Mustang and the R&J Batteries Brad Jones Racing Holden ZB Commodore of Andre Heimgartner.
A clutch problem left Randle stranded on the grid leaving Heimgartner unable to avoid the stricken Mustang, with Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Nick Percat also involved while taking avoiding action.
Before the red flag, it was a willing start between van Gisbergen, Cameron Waters, Chaz Mostert and James Courtney, but it all came to nil.
Upon the restart, Mostert made a fantastic start to lead entering Turn 1 as Waters lost out to be fourth exiting Turn 6, overtaken by Courtney, Di Pasquale then van Gisbergen.
Mostert continued to extend his lead from Courtney heading into the pit stops, with the race contenders all pitting leaving van Gisbergen to replicate his long run and add another victory.
Behind, Mostert took second from Courtney and Waters as De Pasquale rounded out the top five. It was a horror race for Shell V-Power Racing Team teammate Will Davison as he was spun on the opening lap before charging to 13th.
Rounding out the top 10 were Broc Feeney, Will Brown, David Reynolds, Mark Winterbottom and Bryce Fullwood.
In an impressive performance, Jordan Boys in the Wildcard Image Racing entry finished 11th.
Brodie Kostecki endured a rough race as a pit lane penalty for an infringement during his stop was compounded by a tangle with Reynolds, which resulted in a tyre popping off the rim.
Race 23 will conclude the Repco Supercars Championship at The Bend, which is set to begin at 4:10pm AEST (3:40pm local time).
