Supercars drivers get first taste of Taupo

Repco Supercars Championship drivers have sampled Taupo International Motorsport Park for the first time ahead of the circuit’s debut on the calendar next month.

PremiAir Nulon Racing pair James Golding and Tim Slade touched down on Tuesday to complete laps of the circuit in Toyota 86s to get acquainted to the 3.32km layout.

Others also making the trip across the ditch were Jaxon Evans, Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale, with each completing laps earlier this week.

All Repco Supercars Championship drivers from New Zealand in Matt Payne, Richie Stanaway, Ryan Wood, Andre Heimgartner and Evans all completed promotional activities in their homeland to celebrate 50 days until the maiden ITM Taupo Super400.

The quintet enjoyed a tour of the circuit and facilities in order to promote New Zealand’s return to the Repco Supercars Championship calendar since Pukekohe’s last event in 2022.

Previously, Pukekohe hosted the majority of events held in New Zealand except for a small stint at a street circuit in Hamilton.

It marks the first time New Zealand fans will witness the Gen3 regulations since debuting last season welcoming the Ford Falcon GT and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The addition of Taupo is the first new venue the Repco Supercars Championship will visit since The Bend Motorsport Park in 2018.

A highly anticipated return to New Zealand, the Repco Supercars Championship’s ITM Taupo Super400 will occur on April 19-21.
