Spare track time at the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour will be utilised to undertake category testing for the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.
A Tickford Racing Mustang and Team 18 Camaro will complete laps around the Mountain before the opening round of the Repco Supercars Championship to continue evaluation of new components.
One of these is the new steering rack and tyre, which was tested at The Bend late last year in addition to a new MoTeC package.
“A lot of the things that were tested there, it’s a continuation of that to further evaluate things, including the new tyre,” Supercars motorsport boss Tim Edwards said.
“It also gives us an opportunity to test the new MoTeC package.
“And then there’s just some other things that we tested at Tailem Bend that we want to further explore at Bathurst, which is a great proving ground.
“It’s a great opportunity to get on that track, which is unique to our calendar. You don’t get those opportunities very often.”
Parity will also be gauged as it was at the same test in December held at The Bend, which included panel deflection in response to Ford’s struggle at Bathurst.
Supercars will set-up each package, with results to shared to the teams.
The Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour will be held on January 31-February 2, three weeks out from the opening Repco Supercars Championship event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
