Sydney sweep complete for Cam Waters

Cam Waters has made the perfect start to his Supercars title tilt by completing the sweep at the Thrifty Sydney 500.

Late rain provided an interesting conclusion to the opening round of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, but Waters survived to complete a perfect weekend in the Castrol Monster Racing Ford Mustang.

Early challenges from Red Bull Ampol Racing duo Broc Feeney and Will Brown were unable to topple Waters, as the reigning champ came a distant second ahead of Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert after a charge from 10th.

Feeney scored fifth after Shell V-Power Racing team’s Brodie Kostecki completed a pass for fourth during the closing stages as the rain began to get heavier.

Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne was sixth from DEWALT Racing driver Anton De Pasquale, James Golding in the lead PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro, Kostecki’s teammate Will Davison and Erebus Motorsport’s Jack Le Brocq completed the top 10.

“How awesome is that? That’s such a mega weekend, and such an awesome way to start 2025,” Waters said.

“I thought we were going to have fast cars this weekend, but not that fast. It’s awesome to be able to convert it when you’ve actually got a fast car. I can’t thank my team enough for giving me something this good, and the pit stops were good, and we executed well.

“I knew they were going to be lying to me [about the weather], they always do. I had a really good margin there, and I could kind of back it off with five to go and just bring it home.

“Even when it was kind of a little bit wet at the end there, the car was still really fast. The rain was actually quite nice, it cooled the cabin temps down a little bit, it was pretty hot in this Monster Mustang.”

It was a continuation of the dominance from Waters as he holds a 60-point advantage heading to the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix on March 13-16.
