The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship story so far

As the Repco Supercars Championship reaches its halfway point it has become a four-way fight for title supremacy, though the Red Bull Ampol Racing squad hold the ascendancy so far.

Will Brown and Broc Feeney have traded the championship lead since the season started at Bathurst in February.

Feeney made a perfect start to the season Bathurst by winning the opening race, but has failed to be as consistent as Brown.

The Toowoomba native has scored three wins this season to score two less wins compared to his teammate, but he has failed to score a podium in just two races in 2024.

Feeney’s five wins are joined by three podium finishes leading to the 141-point margin Brown holds.

Ford is not out of the title race and have improved since the start of the season to take both victories in Townsville, but again consistency is key as Chaz Mostert leads the way.

Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s star driver broke his win drought in Perth and was the key challenger to the Red Bull Ampol Racing charge earlier on in the season.

Former teammate Cam Waters has elevated his Monster Castrol Racing Mustang into contention through a strong run in Perth and Townsville, though a DNF at the Grand Prix dented his hopes in addition to a poor run at the season opener.

Outside of the leading quartet, Penrite Racing young gun Matt Payne has risen again after an impressive rookie campaign to sit fifth and figure in title calculations after a strategy driven victory in Townsville.

The surprise packet this season is sure to be Matt Stone Racing’s Nick Percat, who sat fourth in the standings prior to the last round to then endure a tough event up north.

Payne and Percat have already added their names to the winner’s list alongside R&J Batteries Racing driver Andre Heimgartner in an emotional home victory at Taupo.

Speaking of New Zealand’s return to the calendar, it proved a massive event and the local fans sure missed the Supercars as they came out in droves.

It also kicked off the exciting run of Track to Towns, which have since also taken in Darwin and Townsville, with further to be added throughout the season.

Nulon PremiAir Racing has enjoyed a solid run this season capped off by its first pole position in Darwin credited to James Golding.

It was great to welcome back Brodie Kostecki to the field at Taupo after missing the early rounds as Erebus Motorsport has endured a tough title follow up.

Young guns within the Supercars ranks have all shined including Cameron Hill, Ryan Wood, Thomas Randle and the previously mentioned Golding.

Moving forwards to the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight, the title is far from over and one false slip can sway the battle in favour of or take the chance away very quickly.
