Just under 40 laps remain in the 2023 Repco Bathurst 1000 and Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Shane van Gisbergen leads the way ahead of teammate Broc Feeney by 4.436s.
Van Gisbergen’s teammate Broc Feeney sits third ahead of Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki and Anton De Pasquale in the lead Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang.
The big news story to emerge since the last Repco Garage update is the retirement of the Cam Waters and James Moffat Monster Energy Racing Ford Mustang. Heading into The Dipper, Moffat clipped the inside wall sending the Mustang hard into the outside wall to cause severe damage. Although the veteran limped it back, the Ford failed to make it past the pit lane entry and was retires.
Another entry not to make the finish line is the R&J Batteries Racing Chevrolet Camaro of Andre Heimgartner and Dale Wood due to engine failure.
Since Moffat’s incident on lap 71 it’s been a safety car free race as teams completed changes to primary drivers and the compulsory brake stops ahead of the run home.
A slow stop from Erebus in changing the brakes enabled both Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaros to jump in front.
The lead has changed as Reynolds is caught by van Gisbergen first, then Feeney as he stays out late in the hope of avoiding a ‘splash and dash’ late in the race, but if the race continues to stay green this scenario is unlikely to happen.
A long stop for Reynolds as Penrite Racing fills the Mustang to the brim.
Movers in the field include Will Brown sitting in fifth having made up 12 positions and Bryce Fullwood up 11 in 10th.
UPDATE: Feeney slowed with a gearshift tower failure and is now in pit lane.
