The illusive Darwin Triple Crown

Since its introduction in 2006, the Darwin Triple Crown has added an extra spice to the Repco Supercars Championship’s annual trip to the Top End and is one of the most elusive prizes on the calendar.

In the 20-years since it was inaugurated just three times has the Darwin Triple Crown been awarded, which was a title secured by winning all three races.

It has gone through many format changes, but many still regard the Darwin Triple Crown to its original criteria or when Scott McLaughlin won it in 2019, there were just two races meaning Pole for the opening encounter was part of the program.

McLaughlin took pole for the opening race then followed up by winning the two events on offer across the weekend to receive the Triple Crown title in 2019.

For the COVID-interrupted season of 2020, the Darwin Triple Crown was awarded to the driver with the most points. After a count back, it was Jamie Whincup taking the win from Fabian Coulthard.

Another format change in 2025 essentially made the Darwin Triple Crown guaranteed to be awarded, but this didn’t matter as Broc Feeney became the first to win all three races to secure the title.

Many drivers have come close including Shane van Gisbergen, Todd Kelly, Marcos Ambrose, Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes.
