The Modern Mustang vs Camaro is alive and well

No it’s not 1972, it’s 2025 and the Mustang vs Camaro battle is everywhere in Australian motorsports from Supercars to Trans Am, but the most relatable is in production car racing.

The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour across the Easter long weekend showcases the best performance models available in the showroom for consumers to buy.

Recently, the race and the Australian Production Car Series has been dominated by various BMW M models, however the American muscle of Chevrolet Camaro has been renewing its battle against the Ford Mustang for a couple of years now.

Of course, the Mustang vs Camaro battle has been going on here in Australia for more than 50 years as back then it was Allan Moffat on the blue side and Bob Jane representing the bow tie in what were some spiteful battles.

Although Moffat’s Ford Mustang Trans Am and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 of Jane were highly modified to contest the Trans Am Series in the US, both left an indelible impact on Australian motorsport.

These production versions won’t have quite the same buzz around them, but continue the Mustang vs Camaro lineage.

Tony Quinn is the man behind the latest Camaro effort at Bathurst, but delays at the start of its build led to a manic lead up as the Chevrolet will first turn its first laps in practice. Quinn is joined by grandson Ryder and TV personality Grant Denyer.

A multitude of Mustangs will take up the battle to the sole Chevrolet at Bathurst during Easter.
