Thomas Randle leads Tickford 1-2 in Tasmania

Just like in Sydney, Monster Castrol Racing celebrate a 1-2 as Thomas Randle led Cameron Waters in qualifying for Race 18 at Symmons Plains.

It was a controversial session as a lack of wind led to strengthened slipstreaming capabilities with no driver willing to lead the pack in the second stage. As a result a number of drivers missed the opportunity for a second run including title contender Chaz Mostert.

The first segment of knockout qualifying led to the demise of yesterday’s race winner Nick Percat as he left the pits too late and failed to improve his time to start last.

Mark Winterbottom was another failing to progress.

In the second part, it was Mostert the major casualty as the two Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaros slowing to not lead the pack. Will Brown, Broc Feeney and Mostert all managed to get another lap, but it was the Mobil 1 Optus Racing driver being bumped out.

Joining Mostert were Andre Heimgartner, Ryan Wood, James Golding, Will Davison, Richie Stanaway, Anton De Pasquale, Jaxon Evans, Matthew Payne and Aaron Love.

Randle’s 50.662s was quick enough for pole from Waters, David Reynolds, Brown, Jack Le Brocq, Bryce Fullwood, Feeney, Brodie Kostecki, practice pacesetter Cameron Hill and Tim Slade.

Race 18 of the Repco Supercars Championship at Symmons Plains is scheduled for 3:05pm AEST.
