The Fast and the Furious actor Paul Walker lost his life 10 years ago as the film continues to be one of the leading franchises in the box office, but has dramatically moved away from the original’s focus on street racing.
The Repco Garage will pay tribute to the actor by listing the top five cars Walker’s character Brian O’Connor drove in the movies he featured in.
Toyota Supra
This Toyota Supra was the stuff of boy racer dreams in the early 2000s. Already owing a 10s car to Dom Toretto after the demise of his Eclipse, the pair build up this Supra and complete a test drive where a Ferrari is comprehensively smoked. It also makes an appearance at Race Wars and saves Vince after being shot by a trucker. The Supra jumps through the streets of LA after the Trans and there is one final drag race before the dramatic finale (limited spoilers).
Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
First picked up in the prelude between The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious by O’Connor after his Dodge Stealth (Mitsubishi 3000GT in other markets) was seized at a hotel while he remained a fugitive. Picking up this GT-R at a used car lot, O’Connor modifies it and wins races to earn his way to Miami. A late call up allows him to win one final race before being chased by the police and crashing into a parking meter, where he is finally captured. This crash was not supposed to happen, with Paul Walker actually at the wheel.
Nissan Skyline GT-R ‘Hakosuka’
This has a brief feature in Fast 4, but it is so rare and cool it had to make the list. Based in South America, O’Connor and partner Mia (Dom Toretto’s sister) travel around in this awesome piece of kit, which was the start of the Godzilla dynasty. This model dominated touring car racing in Japan and stole the show in this film.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII
From 2 Fast 2 Furious, Mitsubishi supplied the then-new Lancer Evo VII for the film albeit this version was bugged by the police and led to O’Connor switching it to a Chevrolet Camaro Yenko. It performs some cool stunts such as the first test given by villain Carter Verone where O’Connor reverses down the freeway at an unbelievable speed. Its fates ends when a car swap is made with O’Connor’s new Miami friends Tej Parker and Suki.
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Viewers are first introduced to Brian O’Connor in this green Mitsubishi Eclipse as he tops out at 140mph in the Dodgers Stadium car park. It later appears at a street race where Dom Toretto’s tech whiz Jesse gives it a seeing over and O’Connor loses the Eclipse in a street race after putting up the pink slip. O’Connor then rescues Toretto before it is blown up by Johnny Tran and his cousin Lance after getting lost.
