Triple Eight pair disqualified from Newcastle Race 1

Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters has been elevated to the opening Repco Supercars Championship victory at Newcastle following the disqualification of the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team Chevrolet Camaros.

Tickford Racing last night submitted a protest against both Triple Eight Race Engineering entries due to an alleged technical breach relating to the driver cooling systems. Walkinshaw Andretti United also lodged a protest on just Shane van Gisbergen’s entry.

As a result, Waters has been handed the victory after crossing the line third with Chaz Mostert of Optus Mobil 1 Racing taking second ahead of polesitter Brodie Kostecki third in his Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro.

A hearing was held last night and the result of those findings were revealed this morning, with the Deputy Race Directors deciding a breach of rule C16.2 regarding the driver cooling system was breached.
