It’s been the perfect start to the 2023/24 Repco D1NZ season for reigning Pro Sport champion Kase Pullen-Burry to win the latest round at Hampton Downs.
Qualifying a lowly 11th due to a gearbox problem, Pullen-Burry endured a shortened practice session making it a tough start to the event and his run of five victories on the trot including a clean-sweep of last year’s Pro-Sport season appeared at its conclusion.
A big come back as his P-B Drift squad not only were forced to change his gearbox, but also another for brother Cody and the team was duly rewarded with victory.
SMP Motorsport’s Shaun Potroz was a big mover in the field to finish the round second and jump into the runner up slot in the standings thanks to victory over teammate Jordan Joyce in a dramatic battle, which included a bit of panel rubbing.
In third place was Connor Halligan after he narrowly lost a battle to Pullen-Burry, but moved up the championship order to fourth behind Team DSR’s Dave Steedman.
Despite starting the event in the wall, D.E Drift’s Dan Edwards borrowed parts and managed to take the Pro Sport round at Hampton Downs.
It will be a close title fight as opening round winner Keisuke Nagashima and Adam Whitehead are in close proximity to Edwards heading to the next round.
Repco D1NZ now heads to Manfeild for a doubleheader encompassing Rounds 3 and 4 of the title campaign on April 13-14.
