The Repco Supercars Championship has started and contested two round consisting of seven races, although the last was canned due to inclement weather.
Sydney Motorsport Park proved a Cam Waters domination, while Albert Park was a Chevrolet cake walk thanks to Red Bull Ampol Racing’s return to form and Cam Hill sealing a memorable maiden victory.

HOT
Red Bull Ampol Racing
This team continues to be the standard in Supercars competition and although it wasn’t the quickest in Sydney, it made the best of the situation. At Albert Park, it turned the tables and rammed the advantage home to give Will Brown the championship lead, with teammate Broc Feeney third. In its last season as a Chevrolet team, Red Bull Ampol Racing is determined to make a statement and take the #1 to Ford.
Cam Waters
Sydney highlighted the potential of the Cam Waters, Tickford Racing combination by completing the Grand Slam. Waters clean-swept practice, qualifying, all-three races and the fastest laps to go with it at Sydney Motorsport Park in dominant performance, but the same cannot be said about Albert Park. Poor qualifying typified Waters’ weekend at the Formula 1 support event, but he recovered in each race to make the best of a bad situation. He remains just seven-points of title leader Brown.
Racing at Albert Park
Yes, the last race of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint was cancelled, but the racing was spectacular. Plenty of rubbing, a bit of controversy, a new winner and superb battling highlighted the best of the Repco Supercars Championship, plus accessibility was fantastic for fans. It was the shame the final race was cancelled, but Supercars proved a highlight all weekend for the fans staying late in addition to all of Thursday when 80,000 fans were in attendance.Big ticks after a disappointing situation last year.
Shell V-Power Racing Team bounce back
Will Davison may have had a tough start to the this season, but star recruit Brodie Kostecki has immediately performed for the Shell V-Power Racing Team. Despite being without a podium finish, Kostecki has been a shining light for the squad and is not far away from delivering on this potential.
Matt Stone’s underdog story
This started last year off the back of Nick Percat and after a disappointing performance in Sydney, Matt Stone Racing celebrated its maiden 1-2 result. However, the success was on Cam Hill’s side of the garage marking a great reward for a driver in his third season and has so far displayed a stronger run of results is on the cards this year. MSR left Sydney last in the Teams’ Championship, but has now risen to fifth. New Zealand will be important for the team to cement the squad’s front-running attributes.
NOT
PremiAir Nulon Racing’s tough start
PremiAir Nulon Racing has been close to hitting its straps this season as it fights to become the Chevrolet homologation team, but the results have not been on the board so far in 2025. James Golding sits 14th ahead of teammate Richie Stanaway is 23rd, with only Aaron Love, Wildcard Cameron Crick and Aaron Cameron behind having all contested one round each. Pace isn’t a problem, rather luck, so expect this team to climb up the standings.
The struggles of Thomas Randle
A podium in the opening race at Sydney Motorsport Park proved the only high point for Thomas Randle as he slumped to 20th at Albert Park. Pace has quickly diminished in qualifying for Randle and the importance of this area of the weekend has never been more critical. The Monster Castrol Racing driver was unable to climb through the field like Waters and heading to Taupo where he struggled last year, Randle will be eager to improve.
David Reynolds slump
Veteran David Reynolds has struggled so far this season and similar to Randle it starts with qualifying. Reynolds has started in lowly positions and been unable to claw his way back through the field leaving a best finish of 15th this season so far. Sitting in a disappointing 22nd position in the standings, Reynolds will be hoping for strong rounds to follow and an improvement in his qualifying pace in particular.
