Wildcards join the action for Sydney SuperNight take two

The Repco Supercars Championship is preparing for further night racing this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park as the threat of weather and the addition of Wildcards provide further intrigue.

Two out of the three races this weekend will be held at night, with only Race 24 occurring during the early evening. Last weekend’s action provided a taste of what to expect as Anton De Pasquale took a dominant victory in Race 21 under lights.

The tyre degradation experienced last week may not be a concern as Sydney continues to experience wet weather ahead of this weekend’s racing, which leaves the potential of results across the weekend to be shaken up.

Reflecting on last weekend, De Pasquale was the major standout, as was his former team Erebus Motorsport with both of its rookie drivers securing a podium. Will Brown was particularly impressive as he scored two front row berths across the weekend, while if it was not for a slow pit stop in Saturday night’s event, he could have walked away with two podiums.

At a venue where it has struggled at in the past, Red Bull Ampol Racing didn’t have the optimum pace to match De Pasquale, but still took a win and two podiums. Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen extended his margin to 338-points, but the next three rounds provide an opportunity for Shell V-Power Racing’s De Pasquale and Will Davison to close in.

Tickford Racing was a team to struggle upon Supercars return, with Cam Waters finishing a best of sixth in the final race as he lost two positions in the title race.

Expanding to four-entries for the Sydney SuperNight, Tickford Racing welcomes back Thomas Randle for his final Wildcard event of the season before joining James Courtney at Bathurst.

Walkinshaw Andretti United also add Kurt Kostecki to its roster for this weekend after an impressive sixth during his last Wildcard appearance at Darwin.
